In a time before anything cryptobro party-related and the Honestly, Neverminds of it all, HAIM brought the instant classics of Women in Music Pt. III to Toronto's Echo Beach on May 24 as part of their North American One More HAIM tour. They proceeded to have the quintessential 6ix experience of hanging out with Drake; the slightly less quintessential part was when the rapper proceeded to hail the sisters as "the Beatles."
A new interview with NME backstage at last weekend's Glastonbury festival sees the trio reflect on what was reportedly a moment of complete happenstance. Danielle described their chance encounter with Drake as being "like folklore, like a mythic story." (Side note: she probably wasn't drawing a comparison to Taylor Swift's 2020 album, but who can think of anything else?)
"We literally landed in Toronto, and went to the first restaurant we saw… it's like something out of a movie," she elaborated. "We were at this random restaurant and Drake showed up."
Este chimed in: "We were straight-up wearing our clothes from the plane, to see Drake."
"But that's what I'm saying," Danielle continued, "we didn't know and he showed up and I was wearing pyjamas and Uggs and no make-up and acne medication, to meet Drake."
"You can't ask us which Beatle we are," Alana protested when interviewer Hannah Mylrea wondered which of the Fab Four each sister would be. "We had no idea he was going to call us the Beatles, so we're very thankful. Thank you, Drake."
Now we're left to wonder: which restaurant? And on that note, will Drake actually bring back Randy's Patties, or is he satisfied with the return of Timbiebs? Like any good bit of folklore, we may never know.
