Italians Do It Better mastermind Johnny Jewel has been clearing out the archives this fall, bringing out a bounty of bouncy treats. Following a bunch of Chromatics rarities, he's now unveiled a Glass Candy-delivered cover of brass master Herb Alpert's "Rise."
The track plays a little sultrier and slower than the late '70s original, first coming through the speakers with a sci-fi-warped whirl of minimal Rhodes tones. Soon, a fuller arrangement wraps a steady snap-and-clap beat, the body butter-smooth sounds of trumpet and the familiar, Biggie Smalls-approved bass melody into the mix.
