It's been seven years since Gilmore Girls was rebooted for the limited A Year in the Life series, and Amy Sherman-Palladino still wishes she could have done more with it. Just in time for the show to bring us the cozy, immaculate autumnal vibes, she's shared some storylines she wishes could have made it in — including a K-pop B-plot for Mrs. Kim.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sherman-Palladino agreed with what we've all been thinking about Lane Kim's (Keiko Agena) ending for years: "I really never liked the way Lane's life shook out. I would have liked to have spent more time on her, especially since she's patterned after my best friend. Sorry, Helen [Pai]." While she didn't divulge what she would have changed about Lane, she did have big plans for the character's mom to manage a K-pop group in the reboot.
"It's so weird because K-pop is so huge now and one of the storylines that we had to drop because we just didn't have enough time to shoot it — or enough money, frankly — was we wanted Mrs. Kim to manage a K-pop band," she said. "This was years before I even knew who BTS was. I sort of feel like, goddammit. That K-pop story would've been so cool."
Even if BTS was already quite popular in 2016 — and the thought of a conservative Christian old lady managing a group of pop stars is admittedly hilarious — we don't think it makes up for Lane getting pregnant with twins on her honeymoon when she should have become a rockstar. She deserves justice!
