This year marks the 25th anniversary of the inimitable The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Ms. Lauryn Hill herself is marking the occasion with multiple causes for celebration: she'll be performing the 1998 album on tour in North America, with Fugees co-headlining after their 25th anniversary reunion tour was cancelled due to rampant COVID-19 cases in early 2022. The run of double-header dates includes a lone Canadian stop in Toronto.
UPDATE (10/2, 10:25 a.m. ET): Ms. Hill has expanded her tour itinerary to include a second Canadian stop in Vancouver on November 12. Tickets go on sale this Friday (October 6) at 10 am. local time.
"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator," Ms. Hill said of the album's anniversary in a press reelase. "I wrote love songs and protest songs (still love songs) — about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past."
After a few dates at US festivals and in Australia and New Zealand with Koffee, the North American tour proper kicks off on October 17 in Newark, NJ. Ms. Hill and her Fugees bandmates (Wyclef Jean and maybe Pras Michel, who was recently, uh, found guilty of political conspiracy) will cross the border to perform at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena on October 26 before completing the rest of the dates stateside, wrapping things up in Seattle on November 9.
