When they're not writing rock operas or touring the world, Toronto-based hardcore juggernauts Fucked Up like to eat. From frontman Damian Abraham's obsession with fast food to guitarist Ben Cook's passion for curry, the band members have a well-documented appreciation for culinary exploration. As such, there's no better group to appear on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, and that's just what they'll do this December.
Speaking to Exclaim!, Fucked Up drummer and foodie Jonah Falco explained how the project came about and what we can expect from the episode:
We were due to play in NYC at Webster Hall with Wavves last month, and being in touch with the world that they are, No Reservations got in touch about filming a bit for their holiday special. Immediately, we all leapt to the conclusion that we would be eating pork belly on top of Machu Pichu within the week, but we ended up just filming a song "live" on stage that will air during their Christmas episode, which is with all likelihood about New York City.
So, no we didn't get to meet him [Bourdain], we all ended up eating cheap takeout that night, Ben and I drank something called "muscle milk" -- which is nothing like curry -- and we played the greatest rendition of a popular classic that we could have mustered.
The silver lining in the disappointment of being so uninvolved with the show proper, though, is that supposedly Bourdain is a big fan of the band. The respect is mutual, and hopefully we'll all share a plate of something soon. I do not recommend trying the muscle milk.
Fucked Up's episode of No Reservations will air on tonight (December 12) on the Travel Channel. You can read more about the episode here.
Also, via Spin, you can watch the new Fucked Up video for "Turn the Season," off this year's best-of-2011-topping David Comes to Life. Plus, get set for the band's new Year of the Tiger release, as well as their split seven-inch with Sloan.
