Following some nasty legal drama, Frank Ocean has won a libel lawsuit against his father Calvin Cooksey.
The lawsuit stemmed from a 2016 Tumblr post published by Ocean that described his father's use of a homophobic slur when the artist was a child. This lead Cooksey to file a $14.5 million USD lawsuit against his son alleging defamation, saying his son's accusations cost him "financial opportunities."
Now, according to Law360, Ocean won the case on Tuesday (October 17). A California federal judge ruled in Ocean's favour, saying that while the court doesn't have to rule on whether the statement was truthful, Cooksey had failed to meet the requirements to win the libel suit.
Following the ruling, Ocean's lawyer Keith Bremer told Pitchfork, "I am sorry that my client had to go through this and am glad that we could bring closure."
