Theo Lengyel, one of the musicians who founded the experimental metal institution Mr. Bungle, has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, KRCR reports.

The former band member was taken into custody yesterday (January 2) in Capitola, CA, after the remains of Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani — who had been missing since December 3 — were discovered at Tilden Regional Park in Berkley. Police say Lengyel's arrest came without incident, and the remains are pending DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office.

A missing person investigation was launched into Kamakaokalani's disappearance on December 12 when her relatives reported that it had been over a week since she was last seen. Lengyel was named a person of interest.

The musician and Kamakaokalani had formerly been married, and Lengyel has been investigated for domestic violence in the past. Kamakaokalani filed a restraining order against him in 2017 — the same year they divorced.

Lengyel founded Mr. Bungle alongside vocalist Mike Patton, guitarist Trey Spruance, bassist Trevor Dunn and drummer Jed Watts in 1985 in Eureka, CA. The saxophonist/keyboardist remained in the band's ever-evolving roster for around a decade, even through the group's relocation to San Francisco and Patton's heading Faith No More. Lengyel played on Mr. Bungle's first two albums for Warner — the 1991 self-titled and 1995's Disco Volante — before departing the band.

Mr. Bungle broke up in 2000, but reunited (without Lengyel) in 2020 to play a trio of reunion shows and release the re-recorded The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo.
