Toronto’s Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band continues a sonic celebration of what they aptly call “wry, brooding, joyous, klezmer-inspired, jazz-inflected new Yiddish music.” I still find Dave Wall’s singing to be this band’s one weak link, but musically they go from strength to strength. From atmospheric instrumentals like “Flora,” “Highwire,” “Hora” and “If Truth Be Told” to the freer dynamics of “ Infidel Tants” and “Rebns Tants,” the Flying Bulgars show why their circus is the party to catch whenever they next roll into town.
