Flatbush Zombies

'Better Off Dead' (mixtape)

New York rap trio Flatbush Zombies steadily built up hype behind their Better Off Dead mixtape via sneak preview single "Palm Trees" and the announcement of their "Better Off Dead North American Tour." Now, a month ahead of said trip, the band have let loose Better Off Dead in full for fans to study before they get to the shows.

The 19-song tape starts off strangely, with "Amerikkkan Pie" working what seriously sounds like the Meow Mix jingle, mezzo soprano opera singing and rock drums into the mix before the rappers even stop by to spit. The Beast Coast crew keep things creepy while spiting venom on gothic boom bapper "Nephilim," build up a bud-and-Olde English buzz on '90s throwback track "Death," and bring aboard guests Action Bronson and Danny Brown for separate tracks.

While Flatbush Zombies' Erick Arc Elliott handled the bulk of the production duties, Harry Fraud supplies the wildly snapping beat behind "LiveFromHell."

The "Better Off Dead North American Tour" starts up in October and includes Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. You can see the show details here.
