Chrysalis Records has unveiled a lengthy Nick Drake cover album. Featuring 23 reimaginings of the late folk singer's tracks, The Endless Coloured Ways —The Songs of Nick Drake is due to arrive July 7.
Unfolding across four sections divided by seasons, the covers album features contributions from 32 artists, including Feist, Fontaines D.C., Liz Phair, Let's Eat Grandma, Philip Selway, Bombay Bicycle Club, Emeli Sandé and many more. Fontaines D.C.'s offering — an upbeat rock reworking of "Cello Song" — is out now.
The album is the brainchild of Cally Callomon, manager of Nick Drake estate, and Jeremy Lascelles, co-founder of Blue Raincoat Music and CEO of Chrysalis Records. "Cally and I embarked on this venture with one simple brief to each of the artists — that they ignore the original recording of Nick's, and reinvent the song in their own unique style," Lascelles explained in a press release.
Pre-orders for the album in 2CD and 2LP formats are available now on the Chrysalis Records website.
