fanclubwallet — the DIY bedroom indie rock project helmed by Ottawa multi-disciplinarian Hannah Judge — have announced their first full-band release, led by new single "Band Like That."
Produced by and mixed by the band's own Michael Watson (chemical club), Our Bodies Paint Traffic Lines is out March 29 via Cool Online. It's the follow-up to Judge's debut album, 2022's You Have Got to Be Kidding Me, as well as last year's Small Songs, Vol. 1 EP.
In addition to Watson, Judge recruited the other members of her touring band, Nathan Reid (bass) and Eric Graham (guitar), for the seamless tradition into writing material for a quartet rather than just herself. They began demoing while on tour before putting together the finishing touches at Port William Sound, resulting in an EP that likewise deals with the trials and tribulations of living and working in music.
It all comes together on the decidedly more full-bodied "Band Like That," cracking open an exciting new direction for fanclubwallet that takes Judge's knack for punchy melodies to new heights. “I had spent months studying everyone else’s bands,” the singer-songwriter said in a release, citing her love for the likes of Metric, Pinback, Plumtree and Alex G. “What made them so good? Why couldn't I be like them? And that’s where this new track came from.”
