With members of Edmonton's Failgiver split between the Prairies and the West Coast, live appearances by the hardcore band might seem hard to come by. The group haven't shown any signs of inactivity, however, as they put out an EP recently and their live show has maintained all of its potency.
The darkened upstairs portion of the #1 Legion was suitable for the group, as they played a relentless set of chaotic hardcore that was bleak and metallic. Bands such as Converge, Trap Them and Botch work as great reference points, and Failgiver did well to evoke a mood that suited their desolate sound. They said very little and blasted noise as a transition between songs, forcing the crowd to focus on the stops and turns the band employed as they exhibited the talent that has made them a rising force in Edmonton's hardcore scene.
