Evan Rachel Wood has made a television appearance on The View to discuss her new two-part HBO Max documentary Phoenix Rising and to respond to the defamation lawsuit filed by Marilyn Manson against her in retaliation to her allegations of abuse and sexual assault detailed in the doc.
The actress appeared alongside hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and more during yesterday's broadcast, telling the television personalities that she is "not scared" of Manson (real name Brian Warner) or his lawsuit, because, as she claims, "I have the truth on my side and that the truth will come out."
In addition to speaking to the cycle of abuse, restrictive statutes of limitation and the healing process for abuse victims, Wood spoke about her intentions with her legal campaign against Warner.
"I'm not doing this to clear my name. I'm doing this to protect people," she said. "I'm doing this to sound the alarm that there is a dangerous person out there and I don't want anybody getting near him. So people can think whatever they want about me. I have to let the legal process run its course, and I'm steady as a rock."
While Wood couldn't go into detail in responding to Warner's recent defamation lawsuit, she did explain that she expected his retaliation, noting that "this is how it works."
"I can't obviously speak about any of the specific allegations of the lawsuit, but I'm not scared," she said. "I am sad, because this is how it works. This is what pretty much every survivor that tries to expose someone in a position of power goes through, and this is part of the retaliation that keeps survivors quiet. This is why people don't want to come forward. This was expected."
Phoenix Rising premieres on HBO today at 9 p.m. ET.
