Ever wanted to wear a Dyson vacuum cleaner on your face? Soon you can thanks to the Dyson Zone — a set of hi-fi over-ear headphones with a Bane-like air purifier that covers the wearer's nose and mouth.
Funnily enough, the Dyson Zone headphones have been in development for six years — long before COVID. In fact, an announcement makes no mention at all of the pandemic, and instead presents these headphones as a solution to "city pollution including gases, allergens and particulate matter." Additionally, the wearer gets to look a bit like Mad Max in Fury Road!
Speaking of pollutants, the headphones' noise cancellation will reduce noise pollution. The visor is contact-free, and is said to "channel the flow of purified air to the wearer's nose and mouth," according to Dyson.
Although Dyson doesn't explicitly mention the pandemic, chief engineer Jack Dyson describes the product as an alternative to face masks: "Air pollution is a global problem — it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport. The Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps. After six years in development, we're excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere."
The Dyson Zone is due to launch this fall. The full product details, including the price, have yet to be announced.
