Maryland death metal trio Dying Fetus are the latest old school veterans to offer up a new release this year, with Wrong One to Fuck With. The album marks their eighth full-length since their 1991 inception, and despite the cringe-worthy title, it features all of the spellbinding riffs and fast-paced technicality that fans have come to expect from the band.
Discombobulating opener "Fixated on Devastation" sets the tone for the album, with Dying Fetus's distinct combination of blazing rhythms with hardcore-style breakdowns. The dynamic six-and-a-half-minute "Reveling in the Abyss" ups the ante with ruthless, crushing grooves and savage blastbeats, as well as sweeping solos.
Dying Fetus continue to build momentum throughout the release, as the second half of the album surpasses the first in terms of ferocious, memorable riffs ("Ideological Subjugation") and intricate technical complexity ("Fallacy"). After five long years since their previous album, Reign Supreme, Dying Fetus hit the mark again with Wrong One to Fuck With.
