With the release of their latest full-length, Descend Into Depravity, Dying Fetus have whipped up an album that fully comprises what they're known for: politically charged, brutal death metal. The current three-piece, with vocalist/guitarist John Gallagher the only founding member left, still hold legendary status in the death metal world, and Descend Into Depravity demonstrates why. This new album features Dying Fetus's signature pummelling blast beats, intense guitar riffs and hardcore-style breakdowns. Gallagher and bassist/vocalist Sean Beasley's growling/screaming dual vocals also somehow exude more brutality than ever. Although the album carries on where 2007's War of Attrition left off, in terms of songwriting, this record is no Destroy the Opposition ― an album that holds its own against anything from Cannibal Corpse and Origin. However, with a little less groove and a lot more speed, Descend Into Depravity is still everything you expect from these masters.
