Diplo Reveals MNEK, Ariel Rechtshaid Contributing to New Madonna LP

Following news earlier this summer that Diplo was teaming up in the studio with Madonna, the Mad Decent guru has revealed that producers MNEK and Ariel Rechtshaid will also be expressing themselves on the pop icon's next LP.

In an interview with Billboard, Diplo gave up some more details behind the creation of the record, which follows 2012's MDNA. While the specifics are slim, he noted that 19-year-old UK producer MNEK (Disclosure, Rudimental) and Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Sky Ferreira) have had a hand in directing the verses of an as-yet-unnamed new tune to which Madonna has apparently given the thumbs up. It's unclear if the track will make it past the prepping stages.

As for Diplo's contributions, the Major Lazer member has undertaken three separate studio sessions with Madge, with certain tracks going through complete overhauls. He says at least one number that has been changed significantly: "It went from a piano ballad to a 'Turn Down for What'-style song, which I didn't like. Now it's somewhere in the middle."

The in-studio efforts have apparently been playful, with Diplo confirming that alcohol has played a part in the creation of at least one new Madonna song.

"One [song] is super weird," the producer explained of the track, whose name is also under wraps. "Late one night in the studio we got a little bit drunk and she improvised a little hook and we made a song out of it. I think it's going to be a breakthrough if she can manage to get everything together and get it out properly."

As previously reported, the pair had tracked about seven songs by the end of July, with Madonna apparently having asked Diplo for "some of the craziest shit you've got right now." A rumoured Disclosure collaboration has yet to be confirmed, with the UK duo admitting only to have met up with the singer at a concert.

An ETA for Madonna's 13th full-length has yet to be determined.
