Devours

'Late Bloomer' (album stream)

After issuing the introductory Avalon EP in 2015, Vancouver's Devours (a.k.a. Jeff Cancade) is revealing even more of himself on his forthcoming full-length debut, Late Bloomer. While the record officially arrives April 15 via Locksley Tapes, you can sample the highly personal collection of synthetic pop whimsy on Exclaim! through an exclusive album stream.

A press release explains that Cancade's nine-song album continues the artist's explorations in 808- and synth-based backdrops, which come augmented with samples and austere vocal work. On a personal level, the autobiographical song set explores "love, aging, fear, denial, liberation." It's noted that Cancade came out as gay "at a more mature age."

Below, you can sample sonic tapestries like the gospel choir-spiked electro dance jam "Freddy Krueger Honeymoon Suite," the xylophone-tapping identity examiner "Late Bloomer," watery slow jam "Cryptkeeper," the surprisingly guitar-blazing "Inferno" and more.
