Dave Grohl has plenty to keep him busy while on the road with the Foo Fighters, but it turns out he's also got a side-hustle in Studio City, CA.
This past weekend, Grohl manned the barbecues at the Beached Pig, a new BBQ joint at the Valley Urban Market — an outdoor food venue co-founded by Grohl's wife.
According to Variety, the rocker manned the smoker last weekend, running pulled pork to the Beached Pig's food truck, and even going on a grocery run for more tortillas.
It wasn't his first foray into pulled pork, though.
"When Nirvana became popular, the first thing I did is I bought a beach house in North Carolina and spent years up there, and I just ate pulled pork like fucking crazy from the time I was 22 to about 25 years old," Grohl told Variety.
Later, when the Foos played Coachella back in 2002, he set up shop backstage and grilled up burgers for anyone passing by. He kept the tradition going when he returned to play the festival with Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures in later years.
When he broke his leg on tour in 2015, he really got into barbecuing, claiming he became "totally obsessed" with cooking on the Big Green Egg smoker.
"It was therapeutic because it's not an automatically functioning piece of cooking equipment," he explained. "You have to balance the vents to make sure that you get and hold temperature for a low and slow cook. You're just basically sitting and staring at these fucking thermometers all day long. For me I couldn't walk and so I would just sit there for nine or 12 hours at a time just like 'ohmm,' watching these temperature gauges — and I started getting good at it."
Hungry Foo Fighters fans who want to grab a taste of Grohl's BBQ mastery will have another chance this weekend; he's returning to the Valley Urban Market this Saturday (September 29).
