Dan Boeckner's Operators Set Up Toronto Residency During CMW

After making their live debut in the U.S. late last year, Dan Boeckner's new Operators project has announced its first string of Canadian concerts.

A Facebook event page lists that the band, which also includes Boeckner's Divine Fits bandmate Sam Brown and Devojka, will play a three-night stand at Toronto's Silver Dollar Room from May 9 to 11. The dates will be presented during this year's Canadian Music Week as part of the venue's annual NeXT@CMW triple-header.

The Facebook page also notes that Boeckner is back in Montreal recording with the group. Stereogum, however, also reported in December that the trio had recorded an EP's worth of material in Brown's basement in Columbus, OH.

While an official release has yet to be announced, Boeckner had previously been tracking demos in San Jose using a vintage 8-track recording machine. At the time, he noted that Operators includes "elements of punk rock," taking influence from Unwound, Fugazi and Sonic Youth, while retaining the electronic pop direction of his old Handsome Furs project.

"It's a nice blend of these two styles and things that I've been able to develop and mess around with in the course of my very lucky professional music career," he told Exclaim! last summer.

Tour dates:

05/9-11 Toronto, ON - the Silver Dollar Room
