Crowbar

Sonic Excess In Its Purest Form

BY Greg PrattPublished Nov 1, 2001

Forever the forgotten older brother in the New Orleans, Louisiana scene, Crowbar forge on nonetheless, creating album after album of earth-crushing power. This time around finds the band furthering the emotional melodies found on the last pair of their albums with a less studio-polished vibe. The music is still predominately slow and heavy bone-shattering sludge, peppered up with a dash of Sabbath via the Mississippi, with images of Eyehategod, Soilent Green, Down and Pantera lurking around behind the roadside bar, across the swamp and at the dealer's pad. Despite their oppressive negativity, Crowbar are about using music to make you deal with a shitty world, and that, coupled with some of the heaviest music around, is why you should be paying attention.
