Converge / Napalm Death

Converge / Napalm Death

Immediately, the thought of a split between legendary bands Converge and Napalm Death sounds like a great idea, and it is. Massachusetts hardcore warriors Converge offer up a recording of new song "No Light Escapes," which at 52 seconds is a whiplash of fast, thrash-y riffs and twitchy, dissonant tones that leaves the listener wanting much more. Converge also offer a cover of "Wolverine Blues," originally by Swedish death metal greats Entombed. Much slower than "No Light Escapes," the cover features Converge-styled, groovy, chugging guitars and guest appearances from the likes of Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At the Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (APMD, the Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them) and more. On the Napalm Death side, the British grindcore masters unleash two new tracks: "Will By Mouth" and "No Impediment to Triumph (Bhopal)." While the former is classic Napalm ― a barrage of fast, sawing riffs and Barney Greenway's harsh, throat-shredding screams ― the latter is a politically driven number that features a slower pace and layered rhythms, but still maintains Napalm's strong, fierce aura.
