Cibo Matto Reunite for North American Tour, New Album

Up until a couple of months ago, experimental Japanese pop outfit Cibo Matto had been inactive for roughly a decade. Following a reunion set in their adopted hometown of New York last March, however, it looks as if the genre-hopping duo are at least back for a little while, as they have just announced a North American tour and plans to record a new full-length.

Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda will be taking off on two mini-tours this summer. The trips, both running under the all-caps banner "YEAH BASICALLY CIBO MATTO," are being touted as "sneak previews," suggesting big things to come. The group's first trip takes them to the West Coast at the end of June. Canadian fans can catch the troupe at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club on June 22. Torontonians can peep the pair on the second leg of the tour at the Mod Club on July 16. Along the way, they will also play a show with pioneering electro-pop legends Yellow Magic Orchestra in L.A. on June 26. See the full schedule below.

While Cibo Matto will no doubt break out their older tunes, showcasing their "undeniable chemistry, unique sensibility, and infectious grooves" while bouncing from jazz to hip-hop to disco and everything in between, they will also be premiering some new material from a as-yet-untitled new album, due out sometime next year.

You can get a sneak peek of one recent cut in a tour trailer, which you can see below. The press release also says to keep your eyes peeled on Cibo Matto's website for a taste of more new material.
