Childish Gambino to Voice Spider-Man in Animated Series

Donald Glover has been focusing on his rap career as Childish Gambino lately, but he's just taken on another acting role, this time voicing an alternate version of Spider-Man on Disney XD's animated series Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors.

USA Today reports that the new season will take Spidey through a number of parallel universes. In one of these universes, he will meet Miles Morales, a 13-year-old black-Hispanic character with similar powers to Spider-Man.

In Morales' dimension, Parker is dead, so he has taken over the role of Spider-Man. He meets the original Spidey — voiced by Drake Bell — who is jumping between universes trying to catch the Green Goblin. Morales' character first appeared in a 2011 comic book.

"I don't think it's hit me necessarily yet how big of a deal that is. I'm very grateful for that, and it's cool to read the comic now," Glover said. "That's the great part about the Spider-Man costume: He can be anybody. Spider-Man could be a girl. Spider-Man could be an old man. You don't know. So I just tried to be as me as possible, because you're always just going to bring it back to yourself when you watch the show."

Web Warriors will premiere on Sunday (August 31), though Glover will not appear in the series until later this year.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting for Glover's TV series about Atlanta's music scene.
