Last November, Cat Power did a song-for-song recreation of Bob Dylan's historic acoustic-electric 1966 Royal Albert Hall concert at the titular venue. (Dylan's set actually took place at Manchester's Free Trade Hall, but it became fabled as the "Royal Albert Hall Concert" due to bootleg mislabelling.) The artist otherwise known as Chan Marshall is releasing a recording of her take on the set as a live album, and you can hear her renditions of "She Belongs to Me" and "Ballad of a Thin Man" now.

As the legend goes, when Dylan busted out an electric guitar for the latter half of his set, folk purists were gobsmacked and the course of rock and roll was forever changed. A Satanic-panicking audience member at that show screamed "Judas" during the electric half — and, five-plus decades thereafter, an attendee of Cat Power's show recreated that moment.
Instead of telling her band to "Play it fuckin' loud," as Dylan did, Marshall apparently mentioned Jesus. "It was something impulsive," she explained [via Pitchfork]. "I wasn't expecting the audience to recreate their part of the original show as well, but then I wanted to set the record straight — in a way, Dylan is a deity to all of us who write songs."
Cat Power will do an extremely-meta recreation of her recreation of Dylan's set live at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on November 6 and 7. Listen to her versions of "She Belongs to Me" and "Ballad of a Thin Man" below.
