Bob Dylan has announced an absolutely massive new 27-CD box set that captures his 1974 arena tour with the Band. Bob Dylan - The 1974 Live Recordings arrives September 20 on Third Man Records and features a whopping 431 songs — 417 of which are previously unreleased — plus liner notes by journalist Elizabeth Nelson. Today, you can hear a version of "Forever Young" that was recorded live in Seattle on February 9, 1974.
Of the new songs, 133 have new mixes, differentiating them from the original 16-track tapes. In addition to the CD box set, Third Man Records will release The 1974 Live Recordings - The Missing Songs from Before the Flood, which features versions of every song Dylan recorded but didn't include on his 1974 live album Before the Flood. The exclusive set is available through the Vault, Third Man's direct-to-customer mail-order service.
The 1974 Live Recordings is being released in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dylan's return to touring, after a 1966 motorcycle accident (and subsequent broken neck) caused him to step away for eight years.
