"Inuindie" pop star Beatrice Deer shares a new single and video titled "THE STORM" featuring members of Land of Talk, the Besnard Lakes and SUUNS. The track arrives off Deer's forthcoming album SHIFTING, which will be released on December 10.

The single centres on resiliency: braving struggles and emerging to hope on the other side. "'THE STORM' is about getting lost in a northern snowstorm — also a metaphor for life," Deer shared in a press release. "When you're lost in the storm, you don't know where you're going."

The Montreal-based artist elaborated on the symbolic nature of storms, particularly their ability to obscure:

You try to navigate, but are you even going forward? In the winter, everything's white. You can't see anything, you can't tell the difference between sky and land. Then, in the darkness, you see a light ahead. That's the way. You go for it and you don't stop. You just go towards that light. That's when you know that you're shifting into your path.

The accompanying Robb Jamieson-directed video features Keenan Simik Komaksiutiksak, who blurs the lines between reality and imagination with his spontaneous dance.

"'The Storm' video depicts a recently fired Weatherman's break on air. Climate change and career setbacks snowball into a full-bodied contemporary dance flood. We are left wondering if it was all in the weatherman's head or if it was broadcast live to thousands," Jamieson said of the visuals.

As we await SHIFTING, check out the video for "THE STORM" below.
