Nunavik, QC's Beatrice Deer — the acclaimed Inuk-Mohawk "Inuindie" singer-songwriter — returns today, detailing plans for the release of her forthcoming sixth studio album SHIFTING, led by its first single "HISTORY."

The follow-up to Deer's 2018 offering My All to You is due December 10. SHIFTING explores the journey towards becoming who you're meant to be, touching on themes of love, grief and survival.

"Emotionally, spiritually and physically, the transition towards our authentic selves continues," Deer explained in a statement. "As I shift into the position where I'm meant to be, I want to keep using what I've learned to help others."

"HISTORY" is one of the few tracks on the record sung in English. It immediately stops you in your tracks by asking the simple question: "Do you know where you're going?" Then it builds into a pressing alt-rock number, electric guitar tones trilling wildly in a crescendo; meanwhile, the inherent softness of Deer's voice never falters in embodying the grounding principle of trusting yourself.

Of the single, the artist said:

"HISTORY" is about changing our focus, because we may not be aware that we're too focused on our past rather than looking ahead into our future. And it distracts us from getting in the lane to our destiny.  It's about shifting into place — a metaphor is driving: it's hard to drive forward when you keep looking out your rearview mirror to look back into your life. Get out of your history and into your destiny.

Let the shifting towards healing begin.
