Back when Massey Hall's revitalization project still felt like a pie in the sky, its parent corporation announced that it would be opening a brand new music venue in the to-be-conjoined Allied Music Centre. Now, that venue has become a reality — and it's due to open next month.
The Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall has officially unveiled the TD Music Hall — a new 500-person capacity venue located on the fourth floor inside the Allied Music Centre at the south end of the Massey complex on Victoria Street.
A grand opening of sorts has been scheduled for February 10, and the Halluci Nation will perform on the venue's very first night. Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday, January 20, at 10 a.m. ET via the new TD Music Hall website.
The venue has already planned several upcoming events, including a three-night stint from Dylan Sinclair running February 14 to 16, two nights of performances from Whitehorse on June 15 and 16, as well as a recently announced Wavelength-presented special event with Deerhoof, plus shows by OMBIIGIZI, Jill Barber and more.
Music organizations including the International Indigenous Music Summit, Honey Jam, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Lula Music and Arts Centre, Lulaworld Festival, Small World Music and more will also host events in the hall in the coming months.
"TD Music Hall represents the future of Toronto's music scene. Purpose-built for incredible sound with modern amenities for fans and artists alike," said Allied Music Centre president and CEO Jesse Kumagai. "This brand new venue is a gift to music fans, much like Massey Hall when it first opened its doors in 1894."
