Ways Of Believing

BY I. KhiderPublished Feb 1, 2002

Ways of Believing is an exceptional EP from Adam Marshall, a superb Toronto-based DJ who has a reputation for rattling club amps with the choicest tech house tracks. Ways of Believing is an excellent foray into this genre, offering smooth, bliss-filled house and contrasting it with darker, more aggressive tracks. "Light in the Distance" brings to mind a strong French house influence, à la Daft Punk, with an infectious bass line and a layered minimalist edge. "Crushed Faith" has a strong mechanical feel that is tempered with mangled whispery noises reminiscent of the music of Cari Lekenbusch, giving one the impression of being immersed in a dark, robotic world. I dare say the music of Adam Marshall, to use a DJ Savvy phrase, is quite tracky.
