Last year, rap legends A Tribe Called Quest returned with the excellent new album We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service. They've played some shows since then, but that's over now, since they have announced that their appearance last night (September 9) at England's Bestival was their last-ever gig.
Their split stems from the death of group member Phife Dawg, who passed away at age 45 due to complications from diabetes in March 2016. During last night's show, Q-Tip told the crowd [via NME], "A Tribe Called Quest, we suffered a blow. We lost our boy Phife Dawg. This is gonna be our last show as A Tribe Called Quest, ever."
It's not too much of a surprise that A Tribe Called Quest are calling it quits. Back in August, they cancelled an appearance at San Francisco's Outside Lands festival due to their grief over Phife Dawg. They also said that their recent shows in Los Angeles and New York would be their last gigs in those cities.
Additionally, We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service was billed as the group's "final" album.
