The Los Angeles Police Department arrested A$AP Rocky this morning on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. TMZ and NBC News report that the rapper — born Rakim Mayers — was taken into custody for his connection with a shooting that took place last year.

UPDATE (4/20, 1:27 p.m. ET): The LAPD have confirmed the arrest of Mayers in a press release. They also share that the victim "sustained a minor injury from the incident and later sought his medical treatment."

The alleged victim claimed the shooting took place in L.A. near Vista Del Mar and Selma Avenue on November 6, 2021, after Mayers and two unnamed men approached him with a handgun on the street. He claimed that Mayers shot at him three to four times and that one of the bullets grazed his left hand.

According to the reports, the LAPD and Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations team arrested Mayers at LAX after arriving on a private plane from Barbados with his girlfriend, Rihanna, who is pregnant with their child.

Mayers and his legal team have yet to speak publicly on the matter.
