Perhaps in an effort to start your week off in the most frustrating way possible, Woody Allen has decided to weigh in on the entire #MeToo movement. In a new interview, he was mostly supportive of the movement — but Allen thinks he's been treated unfairly.
The veteran director, who has faced severe allegations of sexually molesting his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old, previously said he hoped the movement wouldn't lead to a "witch hunt atmosphere."
In an interview with Argentina TV program Periodismo Para Todos [via The Wrap], Allen said, "I'm a big advocate of the #MeToo movement. I feel when they find people who harass innocent women and men, it's a good thing that they're exposing them.
"But you know I, I should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement," he continued, delivering an ironic soundbite in the process. "Because I have worked in movies for 50 years. I've worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one — big ones, famous ones, ones starting out — have ever ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I've always had a wonderful record with them."
Allen added that he didn't want to be lumped in with Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby.
"What bothers me is that I get linked in with them.... People who have been accused by 20 women, 50 women, 100 women of abuse and abuse and abuse — and I, who was only accused by one woman in a child custody case which was looked at and proven to be untrue, I get lumped in with these people."
Last month, Moses Farrow accused his sister Dylan of lying about Allen's alleged abuse. Dylan responded with the following statement:
