As promised last year, the trailer for BlackBerry is finally here. For the first time, we get to see Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton in character as the creators of the ill-fated favourite phone of millennials.
For a concept as chaotic as the rise and fall of the most prominent phone company of the noughties, of course the film had to take the dramedy route. Baruchel dons an obvious grey wig for his role as Blackberry spearhead Mike Lazaridis, alongside his best friend Douglas Fregin, played by director Matt Johnson (of Nirvanna the Band the Show fame).
We also get to see Howerton in a bald cap as investor and eventual CEO of Blackberry, Jim Balsillie. Now we're left wondering if the D.E.N.N.I.S. method would work in acquiring an up-and-coming tech company.
Of course, the film needs to rag on Canadians a little — BlackBerry is a Canadian company, don't you know? "You said they were the best engineers in the world," Balsillie barks at Lazaridis, who fires back with, "I said they're the best engineers in Canada." Ouch!
