This Undercover 'Borat' Gag Actually Made News Back in February

Sacha Baron Cohen — disguised as Donald Trump — was escorted out of a conservative conference earlier this year

We're just a few weeks away from the return of Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat in his eccentrically titled new sequel, and after the official Amazon Prime trailer launched earlier today, people have noticed a gag in the clip that seems oddly familiar.

The cut of the trailer where Cohen is seen impersonating Donald Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference — only to be later escorted out — actually made news back on February 27.

The footage, which sees "Borat" dressed as the president (seemingly offering up an unconscious woman to Vice President Mike Pence), was widely reported on back in the pre-lockdown era. The costumed Cohen was later drowned out by constituents chanting "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!" as he was removed from the conference.

ABC, The Hill and numerous Twitter users posted videos of the incident in early 2020.

"Despite what the media loves to tell you, there are no moderates in this Democratic field," Pence said after the encounter, framing the gag as some sort of radical leftist protest at the time.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is scheduled to be released through Prime Video on October 23.
