Vance released his memoir Hillbilly Elegy — a book that some conservatives loved and others disliked, with Sarah Jones of The New Republic concluding that Vance was "the false prophet of Blue America." Where there is easy Academy Award potential, you will also find director Ron Howard, and he's here to lead always nominated but never winning actors Amy Adams and Glenn Close through a series of scenes that involve constant yelling and schmaltzy, swelling background music.
