The show that officially launched the phrase "TV is the new movies" is finally becoming a movie. Yes, The Sopranos is being rebooted with a prequel film from creator David Chase.
New Line has acquired the screenplay for The Many Saints of Newark, a Sopranos prequel that will be set during the Newark riots of the 1960s.
The film was written by Chase alongside Lawrence Konner, also from The Sopranos. Deadline reports that Chase will be a producer and a co-writer, and is also being tasked with finding a director.
"David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film," Warner Bros. Pictures Group CEO Toby Emmerich said in a statement.
