When they're not TV shaming casual Netflix viewers, Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers remain fully obsessed with '80s pop culture. While Stephen King's influence is available throughout the show, it turns out the three men have a budding penpal relationship in real life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt and Ross Duffer are email pals with King, and they talk on the regular.
"He tweeted about our show and we've exchanged some emails with him," Ross explained. "It still blows my mind because growing up he was such an inspiration — he's like a god to us, and so, it's been surreal just communicating with him at all."
While their relationship is certainly growing, it's not like the Duffers are sharing poop emojis with King over Gchat. Instead, they're extremely careful with how they word their correspondence.
"We spend a lot of time and make sure the grammar is right," Ross said. "We ran the first email by our writers just to make sure it was good, like, we were very, very particular about it."
Matt added that they pay attention down to every grammatical detail, making sure every semicolon is used correctly. "And then he probably writes his email back to us in about five seconds, but he's very, very sweet. He's a very sweet guy."
Stranger Things returns for Season 2 on October 27.
