'The Boys' TV Shoot at Site of Toronto Van Attack Cancelled After Complaints from Community

Producers of The Boys have cancelled a television shoot at the location of last year's van attack after community members complained.

The Amazon Prime Video show is currently shooting its second season in Toronto, and a violent scene was scheduled to be shot near Mel Lastman Square in northern Toronto — the same place where Alek Minassian killed 10 people with a van in April 2018.

The Boys scene in question was reportedly slated to include 450 people running and fake blood.

Although the producers obtained proper permits, city spokesperson Brad Ross told CBC that the decision was reversed after members of the community voiced their opposition to violence being recreated at the same spot of the recent tragedy.

City councillor for the area, John Filion, said he made phone calls to ensure that the shoot was cancelled and moved elsewhere.

"I flipped out," he told the Toronto Sun. "There are people who work in this building, who went out onto Yonge Street to try to help the van attack victims, many of them are still traumatized. And think about the families and loved ones of those victims."

Ross also said that the city was reviewing its permit policies to ensure that sites of violent crimes were taken into consideration during the process.
