Susan Sarandon is gonna be a country star. Alongside British actress Anna Friel, the actress has been cast in Fox's upcoming country music drama series Monarch.
Created by Melissa London Hilfers, Monarch will see Sarandon play Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, as she and her family navigate a multi-million dollar country music dynasty built on deceit. Friel will play Dottie's daughter and heir to the country crown Nicolette "Nicky" Roman. The series will reportedly feature original songs and covers.
Hilfers is on board to write and executive produce, while Instinct creator and Royal Pains producer Michael Rauch will act as showrunner and executive producer. Sandbox Entertainment's Jason Owen is also listed as an executive producer — Owen is a real-life country music manager who represents people like Kacey Musgraves, Faith Hill and Little Big Town, and will ostensibly be providing some insider knowledge.
Monarch will debut on Fox on January 30, with its second episode airing on February 1.
