You're surely familiar with the concept of wake and bake, but what about pot and pot? This has pretty much been Seth Rogen's entire brand since the famous actor/stoner first took up pottery in 2019, and it's paying off in a big way: a pair of fans just bid $40,000 USD each to get a ceramics lesson and a smoke session with the Vancouver ex-pat.
At Rogen's 10th annual Hilarity for Charity event with wife Lauren Miller, held in Los Angeles over the weekend, the joint (ha!) pottery-pot prizes were by far the most popular items attendees were able to bid on during a live auction. The nonprofit organization raises money for Alzheimer's awareness and caregiver support, founded after Miller's late mother was diagnosed with the progressive neurologic disorder at age 55.
"Ten years we've been doing this," Rogen reportedly said [as per Page Six]. "I'm still a famous person, that's nice! This whole thing could have come crashing down, but no." When later thanking the audience, Miller added that she thought her mother would have been proud.
Other prizes auctioned off included a four-person private skateboarding lesson with Tony Hawk for a cool $24,000 USD, a private cooking lesson with Momofuku chef David Chang for $26,000 USD, and a signed guitar and private virtual concert from John Mayer — who performed at the event — which also sold for $26,000 USD. Naturally, Mayer dedicated his rendition of "Who Says" to his bud Rogen.
This year's Hilarity for Charity auction raised a total of $860,000 USD. Though Rogen has already fetched some handsome pots of money for his ceramic vases at auction, the experience of getting to smoke a bowl and spin one on the wheel with the actor is the largest chunk of change so far — and for a good cause.
Well clayed.
