Read 8-Year-Old Xavier Dolan's Fan Letter to Leonardo DiCaprio

Xavier Dolan has established himself as one of Canadian cinema's brightest young auteurs in recent years, but when he was even younger, the Montreal-born director was apparently a Leonardo DiCaprio stan.

Dolan's latest film, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, premiered at TIFF last night (September 10), and it tells the story of a young boy who strikes up a correspondence with a famous actor.

Showing how his art reflects his own life, Dolan shared a fan letter that he sent to Leo when he was just a young kid.

In the letter, 8-year-old Dolan tells DiCaprio that he's seen Titanic five times and thinks he is "a great actor." He goes on to tell DiCaprio that he is also an actor, recounting his experience in drug store commercials and French films.

Boosting the Canadian film industry even back then, Dolan also urged DiCaprio to film a movie in his hometown of Montreal — and to cast him in the role of a young boy in said film.

Read the adorable letter in its entirety below.

Unfortunately, DiCaprio doesn't star in Dolan's latest, though it does feature Hollywood stars like Natalie Portman, Kit Harrington, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates and Canadian actor Jacob Tremblay in the role of a young boy.

It was partially filmed in Montreal.
