Our first trailer for the hugely anticipated The Batman has finally arrived. Closing out the DC FanDome event on Saturday night, Warner Bros. gave us our first proper look at the upcoming Matt Reeves film, with Robert Pattinson looking moody as hell as the Dark Knight.
Soundtracked to Nirvana's epic downer "Something in the Way," the teaser is more than a little intense, showing off one hella dark Gotham City and a pretty bad-ass Batsuit. Also get ready for a lot of the Riddler's games, along with a few quick cuts of Catwoman.
"The thing I related to in the Batman story is that he isn't a superhero in the traditional sense," Reeves said during the panel discussion. "If he has a superpower, it's the ability to endure…He's a very alive character, and to tell a version of Batman that wasn't about how he became Batman, but the early days of being Batman… to see it in new ways, that was a way to do something that hasn't been done."
In addition to Pattinson, the film also features Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard, among others.
For Reeves, The Batman is his first major project since he helmed his rather brilliant War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. In addition to the film proper, he's working with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter and HBO for a new spinoff TV series.
Below, you can watch the first trailer for The Batman and expect the film to arrive October 1, 2021.
