After securing the bag at the box office last month, The Batman will be returning for a sequel, with Matt Reeves on board again to direct and write, and Bruce Wayne himself, Robert Pattison, jumping back into the batsuit.
"Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson and the entire team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2," Warner Bros.'s Toby Emmerich confirmed during the production company's presentation at CinemaCon yesterday (April 26).
It's so far unclear who else from "the entire team" will be returning, if anyone at all. The first instalment's cast was rounded out by Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler, alongside Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell, among others, though it remains too soon to say anything about details concerning the sequel's cast or release date.
Since its release in March, The Batman has grossed more than $750 million USD at the global box office. Its reception was generally favourable, with Exclaim!'s own 9/10 review noting that "it would be a damn shame if we don't get to see more of this world and more of Pattinson's evolution as the Caped Crusader."
Only time will tell which Nirvana song gets a boost from the next chapter.
