Kingston Canadian Film Festival (KCFF) is the largest festival in the world exclusively dedicated to showcasing Canadian film, and it's back in 2022 with its first-ever hybrid format festival taking place from March 3 to 13.
"It's been a tough year to make a decision on our festival format, with such uncertainty of people's comfort-level and the restrictions," KCFF director Marc Garniss said in a press release. "We decided it was best to provide as many options as possible."
The festival will thus be delighting audiences locally with in-person screenings operating at 50 percent theatre capacity on March 3, 4 and 5, and worldwide online for the duration of the 10 days.
"Some people aren't into the digital fest, which I can understand, since it's so different from the in-person experience," Garniss continued. "But it's been an amazing point-of-entry for so many viewers across the world. It's more accessible, more affordable and led to our highest viewership ever in 2021."
With this year's online content also featuring workshops, panels and Q&A sessions — as well as suites of Canadian, local and kids' short films — available on the Eventlive digital platform, he's anticipating that viewership will increase again.
Garniss added: "Of course, many of us are really missing the in-person component and we can't wait to tiptoe back into theatres as well."
The festival's opening night film will be director Michael McGown's All My Puny Sorrows, based on the award-winning Miriam Toews novel — one of Exclaim!'s 16 most anticipated films of 2022. Additionally, one of Exclaim!'s favourite films of 2021, the documentary Kímmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy, will be screened at the festival.
Tickets to attend screenings digitally and/or in-person are now available here.
