While Liam Gallagher only got hip to the noisy output of METZ in 2017, it turns out the trio still have a staunch supporter in Keanu Reeves.

A new GQ profile notes that while Reeves isn't often plugged in to what's new in the music industry these days, recurring favourites include music from the Toronto three-piece and Steve Albini's Big Black.

The piece reads:

He's the world's most famous aging indie-rock guy. He is probably the only billion-dollar-grossing movie star to have once listed Steve Albini's confrontational '80s noise-terror band, Big Black, as a current fave. When he's reminded of this, he lets out a quiet nonverbal dinosaur howl — raaaaaahhhh — and does a little Ted Logan air guitar.

Just a little, though.

He doesn't listen to as much new music as he used to. Hasn't gotten heavy into a new band since he discovered Metz, an abrasive Toronto punk group whose songs have titles like "Escalator Teeth" and "Mess of Wires." He's worried about this out-of-touchness, a little.

"But once in a while, I have the moments, where you drink the whiskey and you get the records out and you start doing the DJ thing until four in the morning."

Reeves first discussed his METZ fandom in a 2013 Reddit AMA, praising the band's 2012 self-titled debut alongside Nine Inch Nails' Hesitation Marks and LCD Soundsystem's "Someone Great." That comment then led to Redditors asked METZ about a possible Keanu connection in a 2017 AMA with the band.

Listing off their favourite Reeves films — including Point Break, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Matrix, Johnny Mnemonic and more — the band wrote, "We're all fans of his. We want Keanu to work with us on a video. Someone hook us up!"

While it didn't happen in time for 2017's Strange Peace, here's hoping METZ and Reeves can get together ahead of their next full-length release. In response to the profile mention, the band wrote on Twitter, "Happy to hear Keanu is still listening...the love is mutual baby #messagemekeanu."

Elsewhere in the GQ profile, Reeves reflects on playing bass with grunge outfit Dogstar, tours his ARCH Motorcycle company shop, and his role in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
