Sydney Sweeney and Julia Garner Have Auditioned for the Upcoming Madonna Biopic

Madonna is directing the film herself, based on a script co-written with Diablo Cody

Back in 2020, it was announced that Madonna would be directing and co-writing her own biopic alongside Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody

Since then, Madonna has made the news for other movie-related reasons — announcing a Madame X tour documentary, skipping out on a cameo in The Matrix and loving Licorice Pizza so much that she was moved to mop the floor — but now, it seems things are heating up on the biopic front.

According to The Ankler, the role of Madonna is one of the most sought-after in young Hollywood, with Julia Garner and Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Barbie Ferreira auditioning for the role.

Apparently, Madonna initially wanted Florence Pugh for the role, but her team is still auditioning names in search of someone who can best pull off a "bad girl" attitude. The film is reportedly being viewed as the female equivalent to Baz Luhrmann's Austin Butler-starring Elvis biopic, which…may not necessarily bode well for the final product.

Madonna has previously described the biopic as a "visual autobiography," and she's reportedly met with Uncut Gems star and sudden tabloid fixation Julia Fox for the role of Madonna's longtime friend Debi Mazar.
