John Stamos has revealed that his alcoholism got so bad by 2015, that he doesn't even remember being on the set of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 in Toronto.
The Full House star opened up about his drinking problem on The Howard Stern Show this week, recounting how his alcoholism was passed down from his parents.
"It's hereditary. And if you poke at it long enough, it attacks you like a monster, and that's what happened to me," he recalled. "It was, you know, the combination of the divorce, and my dad died, and then it just kind of went down, and then my mom died, and I just hit rock bottom."
Stern asked if Stamos's arrest for a DUI in June 2015 was a wake-up call. Stamos responded that it wasn't — when he got home, he drank another bottle of wine by himself — but the events following that night were.
"I forgot that the next day they said, 'Oh, you got to go to Toronto, you're in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,'" Stamos said. "I'm like, 'What?' I was hammered. I don't remember being on that set."
"As soon as I came back from Toronto and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, my sisters were there, and my agents and everybody was like, 'Okay! It's time,'" he continued. "It wasn't even an intervention, it was like, 'We packed your bags, you're going."
Stamos said that he went willingly, spent 30 days in a Utah rehab facility, and hasn't had a drink in the eight years since.
He didn't reprise his role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, which hit theatres in September.
