Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Are Co-Writing Margot Robbie's 'Barbie' Movie

Margot Robbie is planning to play a plastic figurine in the forthcoming Barbie movie. Now, it has been revealed that indie favs Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig will write the film, making it the hippest Mattel cross-promotion since last week's Bowie Barbie.

Gerwig — best known for her beloved directorial debut Lady Bird — is in talks to direct. While that's not official just yet, we do know that she will write with Baumbach. The two, who are also romantic partners, previously collaborated on Frances Ha, among other films.

Robbie stepped into the role last year after Amy Schumer backed out. She will produce the Barbie film through her LuckyChap company.

Until the Barbie movie arrives, Gerwig is putting the touches on her Little Women adaptation, while Baumbach preps his follow-up to The Meyerowitz Stories for Netflix.
