Jahmil French, the actor best known for playing Dave Turner in Degrassi: The Next Generation, has died. News broke today that the Scarborough-born performer died at the age of 29.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of a dear friend and client Jahmil French," a rep for the actor said in a statement released to the media. "He will be remembered by many for his passion for the arts, his commitment to his craft, and his vibrant personality. I ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time."
French starred in Degrassi: The Next Generation from 2009 to 2013, appearing in 149 episodes of the show. More recently, he starred in 10 episodes of the Netflix series Soundtrack.
French's cause of death has not yet been revealed. However, his Degrassi co-stars Annie Clark. Stefan Brogren, Jake Goldsbie and Mindy Shankar paid tribute to his memory with posts available below.
